The optimizer finds the globally cheapest flow. The tile composer picks one canonical recipe per item and builds a replicated, self-contained tile tree — "what you'd actually build", not cost-minimal. Optimizer-only tuning knobs are hidden under Advanced when the composer is selected (the composer ignores them).

Main belt supply i

Items already arriving on your main belt — fuel, fertilizer, coins, anything. Treated as free incoming supply (optionally capped at a rate/min) instead of being crafted. A fertilizer's quality sets Nursery grow speed; belt speed (Logistics skill) caps it.

Central steam (composer only)

Use centrally-plumbed steam for all heat

Assumes Steam Boilers + Heating Pads supply heat factory-wide, so the build drops its fuel production, furnaces, and self-fuel loops — heating machines draw from a single central steam source instead. Free treats steam as a free utility (heat costs nothing in profit/min); At cost charges the fuel it burns inflated by steam's ~60% efficiency. Fuel used as a material ingredient is still produced normally.
